About this tool

“Ideal weight” formulas were built for population averages and clinical dosing rules — not as a personal destiny number. They still help frame a sensible range.

We show the Devine ideal body weight (common in clinical settings) and the weight band that corresponds to BMI 18.5–24.9 at your height.

Muscle mass, bone structure, and health goals matter more than matching a single formula. Use this as orientation, then personalise with a coach or clinician.

How it works

  1. Enter sex, height, and optionally current weight.
  2. We calculate Devine IBW and the BMI-normal weight window.
  3. If you add current weight, we plot where you sit relative to that window.

Practical tips

  • If you are muscular, prefer strength, waist, and how clothes fit over chasing Devine alone.
  • Smaller weekly weight changes (~0.25–0.5% of body weight) are easier to sustain than aggressive cuts.
  • Revisit targets after major training blocks — lean mass changes the picture.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Devine formula?

For adults 5 ft and taller: men 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft; women 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 ft. Shorter heights are outside the classic formula’s design.

Which number should I aim for?

Prefer the healthy BMI range as a broad band, then refine with performance, labs, and preference. Devine is one reference point among several (Robinson, Miller, etc.).

Is ideal weight the same as goal weight?

Not necessarily. Goal weight should reflect sport, aesthetics you can maintain, and medical advice — not only a formula.
